About Me

sillyMy name is Rachel Rae. I’m a communications professional, cat mom, world traveler, and military spouse.

I started blogging WAY before I became a professional while in college to pass the time – when I wasn’t studying or interning, of course. Then, I picked it back up and started “The Professional Army Wife” years after graduation as a way to connect with other military spouses while still living in New York City. At the time, I was navigating through life as a new milspouse separated from my soldier and directing my career towards self-employment. I’m the owner of Wanderlust Public Relations now (more on that soon!) enthusiastically nurturing my skills. I’ve met so many amazing military spouses and have been a part of wonderful organizations! My blog was an amazing platform for connecting me to other amazing military spouses!

Now, it’s been years since I’ve worked from home. My spouse and I have had many adventures. I’ve learned so much about myself and military life. I wanted to be more than “The Professional Army Wife.” Hence, “Wandering Rae of Sunshine” was born. I discuss the name change more in my November 2017 update.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please email at: rachel@theprofessionalarmywife.com. I look forward to connecting — and thanks so much for stopping by! Hope to see you around!

Hi Sam, thanks for your comment! Because of the timing, we both wanted me to be ready to leave NYC at a good point, especially for my career too. If I went with him, it would prolong his tour and it would make it a bit more challenging for me to pursue my career path. This way, it gave me the year I needed to prepare myself. Don’t get me wrong, it was such a difficult decision, but it was really picking from two unfortunate options.

  1. Hello. I recently read your article about Hispanic heroes and I’d love to tell you more about Hero Street in Silvis, Illinois. We are working on a documentary film series that will tell the story of the Hero Street Eight. You have a great blog! Best wishes.

  2. Hi,
I’m a new army wife- my husband is currently at basic training. Do you have any advice or tips

Hi Samantha, welcome to the family! The biggest tip I have is to be patient. Sometimes it’s hard for me to exercise patience, but it’s a must if we have to rely on the Army! Whether it is waiting on orders or leave to get approved, everything is a process and out of our control. Also, as much as we rely on the Army, we are still very much in control of the important things! With a little flexibility and understanding, anything is possible in this lifestyle! Good luck – and don’t hesitate to ask more questions!
